Roofs on vacant buildings collapse in Whitman, Brockton

Part of the roof collapsed at a vacant Brockton building Wednesday, fire officials said. Officials responded to a call at 1:35 p.m. about a collapse at 170 Oak Hill Way. The Brockton Building Superintendent James Casieri was en route to the scene and said he heard an odor of gas had been reported. No injuries were reported. In Whitman, the roof of an empty South Avenue storage building caved in Wednesday, and fire officials evacuated parts of a building on Pond Street that also showed signs of weakness, adding to a growing list of snow-related collapses in the area.
