Should Helen Kirk's hearing be held in open court?
take our poll
Six years to the day after she killed her 3-year-old son because she thought he was the devil, a former  Carver woman will face a judge today in open court after losing a  court battle to prevent the public from attending a hearing to determine if she is well enough to be discharged from a state mental hospital.  The state Supreme Judicial Court  on Monday rejected an appeal from Helen Kirk that testimony about her psychiatric care should be kept private.  The high court ruling will apply to other court hearings to decide whether someone found innocent by reason of insanity in Massachusetts is well enough to be released. All such hearing presumptively will now be open. Did the court do the right thing? Post a comment or click Ledger or click Enterprise to e-mail us. Call 781-340-3157 and leave a short message that we might post as an audio letter. Post a comment or click Ledger or click Enterprise to e-mail us.
