The instructors roared into the class like a pack of angry dogs, berating the recruits on everything from the clothes they wore to the hairstyles they sported. Insults flew. Surnames were belittled. The ultra in-your-face introduction to the 10-week program lasted most of the morning, with recruits alternately dashing outdoors for quick calisthenics and crowding into the stall of the men’s room for a lesson in claustrophobia.
