Bite it! HG's Philly-licious Cheesesteak Burger
HG's Philly-licious Cheesesteak Burger

Eat Your Phil'!

If someone were to ask if you want a sandwich full of meat, cheese, peppers, and onions, chances are you'd say, "Um, DUH, YES." (Unless you're vegetarian or lactose intolerant, of course.) And while the Applebee's spin on a classic cheesesteak is fantastic in theory, ours is super-delicious and WAY lower in fat and calories. Our version is also veggie-friendly, being both meat-free and loaded with vegetables. YEE-HAAAA!

Ingredients:
2 tsp. fat-free sour cream
1 slice fat-free American cheese
1/3 cup sliced onion
1/3 cup sliced bell pepper
1/4 cup sliced mushrooms
1 tsp. olive oil
1/8 tsp. black pepper, or more to taste
1 Boca Original Vegan Meatless Burger
One 100-calorie flat sandwich bun (like Arnold Select/Oroweat Sandwich Thins)

Directions:
In a small microwave-safe bowl, combine sour cream with cheese, breaking cheese into small pieces as you add it. Mix well and set aside.

Bring a large skillet (or grill pan) sprayed with nonstick spray to medium-high heat on the stove. Add veggies, drizzle with oil, and sprinkle with black pepper. Stirring occasionally, cook until veggies have partially softened, about 3 minutes.

Move veggies to one side of the skillet and lay burger flat on the other side. Cook until veggies are soft and burger is cooked through, about 8 minutes, stirring veggies occasionally and flipping burger about halfway through. Remove from heat and set aside.

Split open the bun and, if you like, lightly toast. Plate bun halves and place the burger on top of the bottom half. Evenly top with veggies and set aside.

Microwave sour cream and cheese for 15 seconds, or until hot; stir thoroughly. Microwave for another 10 seconds, or until cheese has fully melted. Mix well and immediately spoon over the veggies.

Finish off your burger with the top half of the bun. Now enjoy!

Fight it! Applebee's Philly Burger
Applebee's Philly Burger

Silly Philly...

From the hometown décor on the walls to the regionally inspired items on the menu, it's clear the folks at Applebee's really want you to believe they're down with wherever it is you're from. Louisiana? Check out the Bourbon Street Steak! New Mexico? The Santa Fe Chicken Salad is waiting. But WATCH OUT -- though these dishes may tug at your homesick heartstrings, the nutritional info is often less than comforting. Take the Philly Burger, for example. Though it LOOKS like a fun take on the iconic sliced steak 'n cheese sandwich, the burger has OVER A THOUSAND CALORIES and 66 grams of fat. And that's before they add a side of fries, which would bring the total to about 1,500 calories and 85 fat grams (PointsPlus™ value 40*). Ugh! Here's the thing: You can enjoy the flavor you're looking for without consuming nearly an entire day's worth of calories. How? Just give a meatless burger patty on a slim sandwich roll the cheese-and-sautéed-veggies treatment. Ahhhhhh... There's no place like Hungry Girl.
