We took a trip down the freezer aisle to check out what's new and delicious... and what's not at all worth buying. Here's what we found!

  Most Fun Breakfast Item...

Jimmy D's Griddle Sticks
PER SERVING (1 pancake N sausage/Griddle Stick): 160 calories, 6g fat, 410mg sodium, 21g carbs, 0g fiber, 8g sugars, 7g protein -- PointsPlus™ value 4*

Alright, so the Jimmy D's line is supposed to be geared toward kids... but why should they have all the fun? (C'mon, they already get recess and nap time.) The outside of these corn-dog-inspired treats is very cake-like, and the sausage inside is really delicious. Since these are pretty low in calories, we recommend pairing one with some scrambled fat-free egg substitute, yogurt, or a piece of fruit to round out your meal. YAY, food on a stick!

  Most Disappointing Breakfast Combo...

Weight Watchers Smart Ones Morning Express French Toast with Turkey Sausage
PER SERVING (1 package): 280 calories, 8g fat, 570mg sodium, 38g carbs, 2g fiber, 18g sugars, 14g protein -- PointsPlus™ value 7

We opened the package of this b-fast option and were a little bummed -- two small, thin slices of French toast with a few unimpressively sized sausage nuggets. Sigh! After chewing it, we discovered the sausages taste okay, but the French toast is just floppy and not all that appealing. Smart Ones, we love you and know you can do better!

Best Unconventional Take on an Asian Appetizer...

Lean Cuisine Casual Cuisine Spring Rolls
PER SERVING (2 spring rolls): 200 calories, 7 - 8g fat, 580mg sodium, 20 - 24g carbs, 1 - 2g fiber, 3 - 4g sugars, 10 - 15g protein -- PointsPlus™ value 5*

These things are AMAZING! Not a meal, per se, but a fun hot snack that won't bring you down with a high calorie count. When you're craving greasy Chinese takeout (you know it happens!), this line of spring rolls will satisfy the need. Choose from Thai-style Chicken (the most traditional of the bunch), Fajita-style Chicken (tastes almost like taquitos), and Garlic Chicken (reminds us of an HG recipe!). Yummmm...

Best Sauce AND Most Potential for Supersizing...

Healthy Choice Steaming Entrées Honey Balsamic Chicken
PER SERVING (1 meal): 220 calories, 3.5g fat, 540mg sodium, 34g carbs, 5g fiber, 3g sugars, 13g protein -- PointsPlus™ value 5*

While this dish didn't live up to its exceedingly beautiful picture on the package, the sauce is INSANELY flavorful, and the other components are great too -- those cherry tomatoes work really well here! And since there's a lot of that yummy sauce, you could totally add extra veggies to bulk up the serving size. HG Heads-Up: Don't confuse this with the Café Steamers Balsamic Garlic Chicken -- that meal is NOT good!

  Most Disappointing Pocket Sandwich...

Lean Pockets Pretzel Bread Grilled Chicken Jalapeño Cheddar
PER SERVING (1 piece/Pocket): 280 calories, 9g fat, 890mg sodium, 35g carbs, 1g fiber, 2g sugars, 13g protein -- PointsPlus™ value 7*

Man, we were SO excited to try this item. But then we popped open the box... It is SO SMALL! It weighs about the same as regular Lean Pockets (yeah, we checked), but it definitely appears narrower. (At least the one we sampled did.) The pretzel bread? Not as good as we hoped -- microwaving gives it a funny texture. The spicy filling's pretty tasty, but with so many strikes against it, this is a flop.

Best Natural, Diet-Oriented Meal with Organic Ingredients...

Amy's Light & Lean Spinach Lasagna
PER SERVING (1 container): 250 calories, 5g fat, 540mg sodium, 40g carbs, 5g fiber, 6g sugars, 11g protein -- PointsPlus™ value 6*

Last year, we teased the release of the Light & Lean items way before their debut, but now that they're on shelves everywhere, we think it's time for a reminder and an official review... HEADS UP, this lasagna rocks! Not only does it taste really wholesome (YAY, SPINACH!), but it's also insanely delicious. The other lasagnas from Amy's Kitchen are also tasty, but they're a tad high in fat for our taste; this one's the complete package!

  Scariest Yummy-Sounding but Bad-Tasting Dish...

Healthy Choice Steaming Entrées Rosemary Chicken & Sweet Potatoes
PER SERVING (1 meal): 180 calories, 2.5g fat, 500mg sodium, 26g carbs, 5g fiber, 10g sugars, 12g protein -- PointsPlus™ value 4*

WOW. This sounds really good but turned out to be a li'l tray full of failure. For starters, the sauce is terrible. It's just plain unappealing. And things kind of go downhill from there -- the chicken tastes sour; the pearl onions seem out of place; and though we love yellow carrots and sweet potatoes, we couldn't enjoy them coated in that sauce. Bleh.

  Best Sweet, Noodle-y & Meatless Chinese-Style Dish...

Morningstar Farms Sesame Chik'n
PER SERVING (1 entrée): 310 calories, 9g fat, 530mg sodium, 46g carbs, 4g fiber, 16g sugars, 14g protein -- PointsPlus™ value 8*

Dishes packed with fried chicken and noodles in sugary sauce might be off-limits when you're ordering takeout, but when Morningstar Farms is on the job, you're safe. Even non-vegetarians will enjoy this meal -- don't be scared of soy-based "chik'n"... really, it's good! P.S. This dish is WAY better than MF's Chik'n Enchilada, which is a little too bland for us. HG Tip: Add some Tofu Shirataki noodles to this for added bulk and extra fun!

CHEW ON THIS:

Today, March 25th, is National Lobster Newburg Day. Lobster Newburg's a dish in which an otherwise lean protein is smothered with butter, cream, eggs, and cognac or sherry. If you want lobster, we suggest you skip this and just get it steamed or grilled and topped with a squeeze of lemon juice. Mmmm!
