To make un-fine wine, simply place grapes beneath a silk pillow, repeatedly mash your head against it, and then wring the pillowcase into a nearby mouth. Taste traditionally produced fine wines with today's Groupon: for $30, you get a wine tasting for two, a cheese platter, one glass of wine apiece, and two logo glasses at Clovis Point Wines (a $67 value) in the pastoral setting of Jamesport. Clovis Point is a small boutique winery dedicated to producing local Long Island wines from its historic vineyards. Producing only two thousand cases a year of Chardonnay, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc, the winery dedicates the entirety of its attention to properly parenting its grapes for stunning success during their aged, bottled adulthoods. Inside Clovis Point's renovated 1920s potato barn, you'll get to sip six select varieties of Clovis Point's award-winning wines, intentionally bamboozling your palate in between with nibbles from a complimentary cheese plate. After the tasting, you'll be treated to one whole glass of your favorite wine, which makes for a lovely foreground as you admire the tasting barn's mahogany doors, bluestone floors, and breathable oxygen atmosphere. Two Clovis Point logo glasses remind sippers of the pastoral splendor of the winery and attractively cradle any sanguine or blonde concoction on its way to lips at home. Reviews Clovis Point has been featured in the New York Times and the New York Cork Report. Eight Yelpers give it a three-star average: - A member of the Long Island Merlot Alliance of seven producers, Clovis Point is emblematic of the versatility of some East End boutiques. The splendid 2007 Vintner's Select merlot ($35) helps support the alliance's assertion that merlot should be considered the region's signature red, as does the pleasingly berrylike 2005 regular merlot ($25). Yet the smoky, earthy, meaty 2007 cabernet franc ($25) makes a good case for that grape's primacy. – Howard G. Goldberg, New York Times
- I love Long Island wines and have tasted them all...but my favorite is Clovis Point. The winery in Jamesport is also my favorite, with a beautiful vineyard facing covered back porch and a quaint and pleasant tasting room. – Steve R., Yelp, 8/3/10
