Episcopal bishop joins two female priests in marriage

An Episcopal bishop in Boston has united two female Episcopal priests in marriage. On Jan. 1, diocesan Bishop M. Thomas Shaw solemnized the marriage of the Rev. Katherine Hancock Ragsdale and the Rev. Mally Ewing Lloyd at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul. The ceremony took place more than a year after Shaw gave clergy in the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts permission to perform marriages for all eligible couples.

Shipyard security guard drank beer, shot BB gun, police say

A security guard at the former Fore River shipyard in Quincy told police he drank a few beers and then shot a BB gun at a road sign. A woman who lives on South Street said she was nearly hit in the head by one of the BBs Sunday.

MBTA asks commuters to keep it down in 'quiet cars'

Boston-area commuters who want a more peaceful train ride to work can now take advantage of the MBTA’s “quiet cars.” The transit agency on Monday unveiled a pilot program that offers one car on the Franklin and Fitchburg lines in which cell phone and pager use is barred, while laptops and PDAs must be kept on mute during peak times.

Quincy High School heating system maintenance will cost $10,000

P.J. Kennedy & Sons has been give a six-month $10,000 contract to do routine maintenance and train school staff. The contract, authorized by the school committee’s building committee, takes effect in January.
